One such sign is oxidative stress, a biological imbalance that can lead to chronic damage and disease if left unchecked.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, our modern lifestyles often contribute to increased oxidative stress. Chronic stress, a constant fight-or-flight mentality, over-reliance on processed foods, and exposure to toxic environments can all throw our bodies off balance.</p>
<p>Furthermore, these factors can lead to a host of health issues, including anxiety, high blood pressure, diabetes, strokes, heart and circulation problems, and high cholesterol, among others. Many of us resort to chronic medication to alleviate these symptoms, but this approach often fails to address the root cause of the problem.</p>

Owner, Debi Rossouw&#8217;s whole journey started in chronic fight-or-flight mode, leading to oxidised stress that crushed her immune system. Nothing changed until she released the pressure cooker in her nervous system and learned to decompress and self-regulate.</p>

<h2>A quick look back:</h2>
<p>Debi Rossouw lived the high life in Dubai, working hard, playing hard, and enjoying the life many dream of. Unfortunately, a life of constant pressure and too much fun will eventually lead to stress related illnesses and burnout symptoms, if not regulated and managed, within balance.</p>
<p>Debi used to live for her daily or second daily massage; she even employed someone to live with her and massage her to sleep.  Still, she woke up with aches and pains each morning.</p>
<p>Suddenly she realised that there must be a deeper reason why this is happening, why her body is physically becoming ill. The extreme stress of her work hard, play hard lifestyle created a continuous state of fight-or-flight or ongoing stress in her brain and body.</p>

<p>Your body&#8217;s biology is not just made up of a physical body; it is all encompassing — mind, body, and spirit. If one is in distress, everything is in distress.</p>
<p>After suffering from burnout and developing <strong>Hashimoto&#8217;s thyroiditis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia. </strong>Her case was a big question mark for the top specialists, and she was therefore forced to find another way. After barely getting out of bed for almost three years, Debi started researching natural ways to heal her body and reclaim her life back. Trauma release therapy, also called, &#8220;TRE&#8221; (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) was the number one technique Debi found to manage stress, anxiety, and tension.</p>
<p>In 2006, she started Chi Chi&#8217;s Wellness Retreats and MindSpa to share her journey and the therapies that made her whole again.</p>

<h2>Why can stress kill you?</h2>
<p>Chronic fight-or-flight stress hormones can flow over to PTSD-type symptoms such as insomnia, depression, anxiety, burnout, fatigue, and generally not feeling your joy spot. Maybe you&#8217;re just feeling at a crossroads or waking up tired despite sleeping 8 hours.</p>
<p>According to <a href="https://www2.deloitte.com/za/en/pages/about-deloitte/press-releases/working-women-suffer-burnout-and-harassment-deloitte-study-shows.html">statistics by Deloitte</a>, 40% of South African women are currently suffering from burnout in the workplace.</p>
<p>An <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/stress-management/in-depth/stress/art-20046037">article by the Mayo Clinic</a> states that:</p>
<p>&#8220;The long-term activation of the stress response system and too much exposure to cortisol and other stress hormones can disrupt almost all the body&#8217;s processes. This puts you at higher risk of many health problems, including:</p>

<li>Despression</li>
<li>Digestive problems</li>
<li>Headaches</li>
<li>Muscle tension and pain</li>
<li>Heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke</li>

<p>We use <a href="https://www.chichisretreats.com/treatments-therapies/">TRE (Tension, Anxiety, and Trauma Releasing Exercises)</a> in our retreats to equip you to control your stress, symptoms of trauma, and anxiety, amongst other therapies.</p>
<p>TRE is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking or vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return to a state of balance.</p>
